Motorsport Audi and Castrol EDGE - An enduring relationship

Getting maximum performance from a race car is one thing, but managing this consistently throughout dramatic 24-hour endurance races is a real test of an engine’s capabilities, not to mention its lubricating oil.

Castrol has been working with Audi in motorsport for over 30 years, and this year worked with their Le Mans team for the first time through every minute of the 24-hour race.

This first joint appearance between Audi and Castrol EDGE at Le Mans was marked by a sensational victory in difficult conditions.

Success at Le Mans 2011

At this year’s thrilling Le Mans 24-hour race, Marcel Fässler, Andrew Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer in the Audi R18 TDI clinched the tenth Le Mans victory for Audi.

It was the Audi’s speed and reliability that helped claim the win - throughout the entire race the winning car didn’t have to come in for a single unscheduled pit stop.

Management Board Member for Development, Michael Dick, said: "This Le Mans success was no doubt the one that required the toughest battle which perhaps also made it the most valuable one."

In addition to the Le Mans victory, Audi have also been enjoying success in other prestigious endurance races this year including the endurance classic at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Castrol EDGE are proud to have been working closely with the team through all of these demanding tests.
